With apologies to Carly Simon, that song has been running through my mind lately. I am anticipating my next big adventure—a two week tour of Japan following by a four day hike of the Kumano Kodo!
I have been wanting to visit Japan ever since I was a teenager. The Japanese art and culture has always fascinated me. Years ago, I saw an exhibition of items from Japan’s Edo period at the National Gallery in DC and could not believe how beautiful a simple pot or piece of fabric could be. I knew then, I needed to go to Japan.
Then, I read about the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail! It is one of two World Heritage Pilgrammages in the world, the other being the Camino de Santiago. If you have completed both, you get a special certificate in a special ceremony and get to beat a special drum! Well, when I read that, I knew I had to do it!
So I am leaving the end of October and will be there for three weeks, getting back just before Thanksgiving. I’ll keep you updated!
