After six months of dreaming and waiting, I am finally here in Iceland!  We arrived mid morning today and were sure lucky to be here instead of stuck in JFK.  Bad weather delayed our flight in Atlanta and we were an hour late arriving in JFK.  Luckily, the gate to our KEF flight was just 2 minutes away from our ATL flight and we made it just in time!

For this trip, I decided to try and do some plein air sketching if the opportunity presents itself.  Normally, I do not take any pastels with me,  but this time, I put together my own little pochade box.  After looking at the beautiful wooden boxes that are offered, I thought I might save a little money and use an ordinary plastic box.  Here it is below:

Cost:  $1.75.  And it doesn’t take up much space in my bag!  That cute little red house that you see outside my hotel window is just begging to be sketched!

This year, I am going to Iceland!  I am looking forward to traveling again with my dear friend Rebecca, whom I have known for almost 40 years.  We started traveling together when we were programmers for Piedmont Airlines and she is one of my favorite travel companions!  

So why Iceland?  It is a landscape artist's dream.  The landscape is so unusual, many science fiction movies are made there.  Waterfalls!  Volcanos!  Hot springs! Puffins! Villages! Yarn shoppes!  Cute little Icelandic ponies!  Unusual museums!  Plus the knowledge that we will be touring one of the most progressive nations in the world!
